Foundations of working with tangata whenua workshop

Given the considerable interest shown, INZ have organised a workshop on how to be effective working and negotiating with tangata whenua.

The learning objectives of this are to:

  1. Have a basic idea of who Ngai Tahu are
  2. Understand the structures of Ngai Tahu
  3. Appreciate the cultural context
  4. Have a broad understanding of relevant history including the Treaty settlement
  5. Know the formal requirements of meeting with tangata whenua both on and off marae
  6. Be able to identify personal and collective cultural conserves that act as a barrier to effective interaction and have tools to deal with these.

The workshop will take place from 5pm Tuesday  6th March until 5pm 7th March at Ngati Moki (Taumutu) Marae near Southbridge.

It will be facilitated by Peter Lawless and Gina Soloman, who between them bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the session. The local people, as tangata whenua of their place, may also choose to partake in the day.

 

The price for the workshop is $750 + GST. This includes Koha for the night on the Marae.
